The People of the State of Illinois
vs.
CALVIN BUCHANAN

The Grand Jurors, chosen, selected and sworn, in and for the County of Saline in the name and by the authority of the People of the State of Illinois, upon their oaths present:  That Calvin Buchanan late of said County, on the twelfth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety six at and within the said County of Saline did unlawfully, feloniously, willfully and with malice aforethought, assault and then and there, unlawfully feloniously and willfully with malice and aforethought did strike one LEMUEL MORSE a human being in the peace of the People then and there being with a certain hatchet then and there in his hand had and held and did thereby then and there give him the said Lemuel Morse a mortal wound on the left side of his head of which said mortal wound the said Lemuel Morse then and there instantly died and so the Grand Jurors, aforesaid on their oaths aforesaid do say that the said Calvin Buchanan in manner and by means aforesaid unlawfully feloniously and willfully with malice aforethought did kill and murder the said Lemuel Mores contrary to the form of the statute in such case made and provided, against the peace and dignity of the said People of the State of Illinois---(marked "Continued--see other page").  Marion S.
